Mount Desert Nursing Association is able to care for our neighbors at home because of the incredible support of our community. That same generosity is reflected in our space at 12 Summit Road, which exists— and continues to improve—thanks to the time, talent, and kindness of so many.
A Year of Care

Once again, I am blown away by how our supporters show up for us time and again! MDNA had some incredible high points in 2025. Namely all of you! Our fall appeal alone raised more than $100,000, a critical contribution that allows us to continue providing compassionate, high-quality care to our neighbors at home. As our annual operating budget now exceeds $1.5 million, donor support remains essential to sustaining our mission.

As summer fades and fall settles in to our small island community, we find ourselves reflecting on our busy year and looking ahead with purpose. It was a joy to meet many of you at events over the summer from our Coffee Chats to our 1st annual Lobster Bake at Archie's. Thank you for your continued support and interest in MDNA’s mission. Sharing the work we do is always an honor, and your partnership makes all we do possible.

Each year I am always surprised just how fast the summer goes – how is it that we find ourselves in mid-July? Like many of you, it has been a busy season for us at MDNA. We had the highest number of patients ever on our service in June, and July is shaping up to be just as full! We are committed to providing our nursing, physical therapy and occupational therapy services to anyone in need who has a referral from their provider on MDI, the islands, Trenton, and Lamoine.

As I write this, the sun is finally shining here on MDI! Despite a chilly and rainy spring, we have had a busy few months. Our small but mighty team of 14 has been working hard to serve patients across MDI, Trenton, Lamoine and have even made several trips out to Swans Island.

It is 2025! Time marches on and we welcome a new year and new challenges as we work to always prioritize caring for our neighbors at home. The landscape for health care continues to be ever-changing with new regulations and continued threats to cut funding. While this is stressful and concerning, we work each day to do the right thing for our patients.

We here at MDNA are so humbled to have an amazing team of administrators, clinicians, Board of Directors and friends, not to mention our most critical assets: our patients and supporters. Everyone holds a vital role in our success. We feel honored to have your trust and belief in our mission to provide care with the goal of keeping our neighbors healthy at home.

Is it me or do these precious summer days just fly by? I am doing my best to soak up every moment of warmth and energy that these days bring. We are thrilled to report continued growth throughout this year at MDNA. (See our graphic below.) As you may know, MDNA is currently the only home health care agency providing care on Mount Desert Island.

And just like that here we are in April, and I think our first, second, and third winters are behind us! At MDNA we don’t skip a beat but are thrilled not to have to traipse through snow and ice in order to provide our special brand of home care to our neighbors on MDI and in Trenton and Lamoine.

And just like that, it is 2024! Time flies when you have as much fun as we do at Mount Desert Nursing Association. 2024 is a milestone year for us: we turn 75 years young on September 1st! To celebrate our long history of providing home care in our communities, we will soon be launching our 75th Anniversary Campaign.
